The conflict in this book is Ishmael vs. the rebels. The rebels are chasing Ishmael’s group and many others through villages and towns trying to kill them or capture them.
Person vs. Nature
In this memoir, Ishmael is a 12 year old boy is inside a jungle after being separated from his parents and his group. Throughout the book he is trying to stay alive by fighting animals, other people, and animals such as snakes. Ishmael was in the woods and got chased by rabid pigs and he almost stepped on a snake.
Person vs. Society
Ishmael is having a hard time getting food and a place to stay. As he goes around to different villages with his group of kids, the villagers won’t let them in because they are mistaking them for rebels. Some villagers would capture the kids and make them run across hot sand with no shoes on.
